Amae Love Biography

Amae Love is an eclectic singer / songwriter with a sultry, soulful voice that embodies a modern approach to soul, blues, R&B and jazz. Similar to artists like Amy Winehouse & Adele, Amae takes the best of that classic vintage sound and combines it with soulful, bluesy melodies paired with positive & empowering lyrics. She likes to call this style “Singin’ the Purples” as in: a higher consciousness version of the blues. Amae is a multi-faceted talent whose skills as performer include Improvisation, MC’ing, hoop dance, DJ’ing, Dance, beatboxing, and guitar.

Amae has recently performed all over the West Coast festival circuit, including Opening up for Zap Mama at Earthdance Festival 2010. For the last 2 years she has also been the lead singer / narrarator for Performance art / Theater troupe Liquid Fire Mantra. LFM’s stage performance features some of the world’s best fire dancers, large-scale projections, professional dance and storytelling. LFM went international this year with their stage show at BOOM festival in Portugal.

Amae’s recent Solo and LFM performances have included Harmony Festival, Lightning in a Bottle, the Raw Spirit Festival, Emrg-n-see, Mystic Garden Party, Burning Man, Beloved, Horning’s Hideout, & Bali Spirt Festival. She has sung with a host of west-coast underground acts such as the Everyone Orchestra, David Starfire, Gaudi, Blane Lyon, Nicoluminous, Cornflower, the Human Revolution, the Luminaries, Sasha Rose, Lynx, Desert Dwellers, Phadroid, Lucent Dossier and many others. She has collaborated on tracks with The Human Revolution, Nicoluminous, and others with many more to come.

Amae’s most recent & exciting musical offering is “The Amae-zing new Birthday song!” This is an extremely catchy & fun little gospel / soul ditty meant to slowly replace our old, tired birthday dirge. The homemade YouTube video of the song is going viral and hundreds of people are learning it, singing it & loving it. Amae is a HUGE fan of birthdays and could not be more excited about her new found role of The “Birthday Instigator”. She is currently at work recording the official song & planning a full-production video, set to debut in early 2011. See the current video here!

Amae released her debut solo album in 2008, RIPE. With 16 all original tracks, “Ripe” reveals an artist as willing to teach and learn as she is to experiment with musical styles as varying as her own vocal range. The album re-invigorates pop with a touch of soulful blues, and meanders through dub, hip-hop and funk. “Ripe” was produced by Stefan Broadley who has worked with Incubus, Korn, Kid (from Kid’n’Play) and members of the Black Eyed Peas, and was majorly funk-ed up by virtuoso bassist / guitarist / musical director Melvin “spoon” Brannan, who toured with the Rolling Stones and the Toledo Show. You can find the “Ripe” and much more at

In summer of 2010 Amae released a new 5-song EP called “Singin’ the Purples,” an all-live musical experiment. “Singin’ the Purples” was recorded in 48 hours in Bali with producer Rob Weber. All the musicians played at once in separate rooms to create the feeling of a truly live band. The sound is quite different from her previous album, in that is decidedly more bluesy and raw.

Amae’s previous musical career has been vast & varied. Having performed professionally since the age of 11, Amae has performed everywhere from Disneyland to Padres games, sang radio jingles and opened up for the Drifters, all before graduating high school. Amae relocated to Los Angeles in 2001 and performed with electronica-funk trio Animastik for several years, co-writing over 40 original tunes, recording several demos and a full-length album, playing at venues such as the Viper Room, the Knitting factory and the Key Club, and garnering serious interest from labels such as Dreamworks and Interscope. Amae has performed at large-scale Seminars such as the Enlightened wealth retreat, and at charity galas, political events, and weddings.

Amae made the difficult decision to go solo after 4 years with Animastik. Soon after she won an award for “Best Music Video” in Elevate film festival 2006, for her Hip-pop anthem about being an artist in LA, “Concrete Flowers.” All the videos for this consciousness-raising festival were shot and edited in a mere 48 hours. The award winning result can be viewed at

Amae has practiced the art of improvisation and being ready for anything. Such unplanned experiences have included getting herself onstage at an Erykah Badu concert to serenade the songstress for her birthday, spontaneously performing to a packed audience with London act Gaudi, (and later joining him for several of his fall 2010 tour dates as a result) and getting pulled onto the stage in front of thousands to sing with international underground act Ganga Giri.

Amae’s Dj personality is “SelectAmae” of the “trainwrecka posse.” SelectAmae is a silly, fun-loving, over-the-top character whose favorite thing to do is to dress outrageously colorful while busting a groove to get the whole party moving! SelectAmae is a like a cross between a DJ, an MC, a comedian and a singer. SelectAmae plays a blend of the best classic Soul, Pop and Motown hits, along with the freshest NEW sounds from the West Coast Underground. She also mixes in and sings over her own original tracks.

In addition to her music career, Amae is a longtime health nut, environmentalist  and foodie. She is also known to make people laugh. As such, She co-created a popular online “un-cooking show” of comedic raw food videos, with the cheeky title “Sexy Bitches Like it Raw,” featuring the original song from her album, “Sexy Bitches.” The videos have gone viral and the Sexy Bitches are somewhat of a sensation in the raw food world. The show is currently in pre-production to become a traveling reality show, where the Sexy Bitches will invade kitchens of those willing to learn the ropes of making delicious food that is also healthy, while having fun of course! The show is no longer limited to raw food only, but focuses more on attaining vibrant health, which will be completely unique according to the individual.
